Arrival 1st container 'Fair for Life - Fair Trade' mangos at Nature's Pride

On January 23rd, the 1st container was unloaded at the premises of Nature’s Pride in Maasdijk, with Fair Trade mangos from Peru. The mangos will be used for the ripening program and will be sold in the regular sales channels. The mangos are perfectly orange inside and at the perfect maturity stage. This means great eating quality after ripening. The mangos can be recognized by their black&white ‘Fair for Life – Fair Trade’ sticker.

,,The reactions of our customers are very enthusiastic”, according to Herman Hoogendoorn responsible for Nature’s Pride’s mango program. ,,Our relations are glad that we have taken  this initiative and that we show the perseverance to implement  this Fair Trade certification in the whole chain’’

'Fair for Life - Fair Trade'
Director Shawn Harris adds: ,,We wanted to introduce an independent audit that went further than just a document. This improves issues at the grower level.  The ‘Fair for Life – Fair Trade’ certification  actually improves issues at the grower level. The certificate is comparable with Global G.A.P., but for social aspects supplemented with a guarantee for a minimum price and a extra premium to initiate social projects such as new school books, new wells to guarantee fresh water, full time teachers, new clinics – whatever is needed locally. We were convinced that our growers were being fair already, but felt that the audit would clarify this for our customers”.

In recent months Els Lindeboom, Social Responsibility Manager at Nature’s Pride, has frequently visited the growers in Africa and South America to take together the necessary measures to pass the Fair Trade audits.

Certification by IMO
Nature’s Pride has chosen for certification by the Swiss non profit organization ‘IMO’. IMO (Institute for Market ecology), is a renowned non profit certification institute for organic, sustainable and ethical control with more than 20 years of experience and thousands of certified operations in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Other products will follow…
Certifying our mangos is just the beginning for Nature’s Pride. The buyers will continue to add new products from different growers around the world to IMO certification. Ensuring every product we import is truly produced and handled in a fair way, without substantially changing the price.
