Lotus root

The lotus root is a long slightly round rhizome of the lotus plant. The skin is white-reddish and brown depending on the maturity of the root. The root has an average of 7 to 9 'tunnels' so when you slice the lotus root along the width you can see small decorative holes. The texture of the root is slightly crunchy and has a mild sweet taste.

Lotus root is kept refrigerated in storage and during transport. The ideal temperature during transport is between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius. At home the lotus root needs to be kept in the fridge.
