Responsible water management

Water is essential for everyone, but it is scarce. In response, we are committed to responsible water management together with growers. We invest in achieving maximum water conservation in the field and in regions where there is an imbalance between water use and availability we collaborate with stakeholders on creating a healthier ecosystem. We are a leader in the certification of responsible water use and use water as a criterion for sustainable procurement.

Would you like to know what we do in partnership with our growers to ensure responsible water management? Watch the video below for an explanation

Water audits as a starting point

Water audits are a good starting point to guarantee legal and responsible water use in our value chain. We were the first in our sector to introduce water audits in 2019. One of our procurement criteria is performing a water audit. However, we full realise that, in addition to audits, further action must be taken to find the right balance between the demand for water and its availability. We are therefore actively committed to sector-wide and value chain collaboration to achieve responsible water use.

Value chain collaboration

As co-founders and Steering Committee members of our sector covenant SIFAV and through partnerships with WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme), we continue to drive action on water compliance KPIs and collective action in Peru, Chile, and Spain. In these countries, we work on promoting sustainable water management, not only to help conserve water, but also to support local communities and ecosystems. For example, in Peru, we constructed 68 kilometres of infiltration trenches, partnered with native communities and planted thousands of trees.

Long time collaborations with our growers

Collective action for responsible water management

Our approach to responsible water management goes beyond audits at individual growers: we actively commit to sector-wide and value chain collaboration to achieve responsible water use. We call this collective action. Nature's Pride plays a leading role and actively contributes to cooperation between growers, importers, the public sector and other stakeholders. We are currently working with a wide range of stakeholders in three key sourcing regions in Peru, Chile and Spain.
