Melissa

Looks like mint, tastes like lemon

Melissa - Product picture

The resemblance to mint is obvious in melissa, but the taste tends a little more towards lemon. However, the herb is not as strong as southernwood. Melissa is also known as lemon balm. This herb is known as an ingredient in the kitchen as well as for its medicinal properties, as the ancient Greeks discovered.

The scent is refreshing and uplifting. Melissa is at its best at the start of flowering. The bright green leaves are oval and serrated.

Preperation tips

The fresh, lemony character of melissa really comes into its own in fruit salads and jams. Herbal tea brewed with melissa is also a delicious alternative to mint or lemon tea. Preparation is easy: just rinse and pat dry with kitchen paper. The leaves can be torn for further processing in a dish.
