Turnip

Turnips are hitching a ride on the revival wave of heirloom vegetables

Turnip - Product photo

Many vegetables that have been missing on the shelves for years are making a remarkable comeback. The turnip is one of them. The turnip is a very old-fashioned vegetable. They did not disappear from the picture because of their taste: turnips are tender and sweet, while packing a spicy kick as well. Their flavour can be compare with that of tender radishes.

As a true spring vegetable, turnips are perfect combined with other spring vegetables, but at Nature's Pride, turnips are also available in other seasons. The colour of the vegetable stands out on the shelves: a combination of purple, pink and white.

Recipes & preparation tips

The turnip lends itself to traditional grandmother's recipes: a soup, a stew or a casserole. As an heirloom vegetable, the tubers now also star in more fashionable recipes. One such example is a Bimi® quiche with turnips. Cleaning turnips is a doddle: remove the top and bottom with a sharp knife, peel and then cut into slices or cubes.
