Courgette flower

The flower is not inferior to the fruit

Zucchini flower - Product photo

The courgette owes its fame to the fruits that are attached to it. Nevertheless, the flower of the crop is also a rising star in the kitchen. The exotic appearance of the yellow flowers is not only beautiful to look at; the taste is also subtle: neutral, with a slightly bitter undertone. This makes the flowers an ingredient that easily adapts to the other ingredients in a recipe.

Courgette flowers are versatile in their preparation. Pan-frying is an option, as are uses in the deep-fat fryer and the oven.

Recipes & preparation tips

It would be a waste to only use the flower of edible courgettes as a garnish. The delicate flavour also encourages other culinary experiments. Why not try filling the edible courgette flower for a change? Or give salads an exotic makeover by adding the yellow part of the flower. Do not rinse the flower, but clean it thoroughly and remove stamens.
