Growing and harvesting

The red pitahaya is a cactus fruit that grows on climbing cactus plants. The first red pitahayas can be harvested 18 months after planting the pitahaya cactus plant (taken from a mother plant). After harvesting, the pitahayas are packed in boxes of three kilograms for transport by aeroplane or boat to the Netherlands. At Nature's Pride, some of the pitahayas are re-packaged for sale to the consumer.
